Seven Islands Church
It has been a while since I posted, but a lot has happened to my team after our facility closed. Some of us have bounced from one job to another and have not had much free time. However, now that things are settling down, we are making plans to investigate local sites and a trip to Waverly in the spring. The investigation I would like to talk about took place back in the summer. We had been told that Seven Islands church was haunted and not a good place to visit after dark. Investigators have posted of seeing shadows, hearing foot steps and creepy ringing bells in the cemetery at night. With that in mind, we loaded our equipment and arrived at the church around 10pm. Joann, Linda and I were the only three from our team that could make this trip. The first thing we noticed when we arrived at the church was a glowing object at the back of the cemetery. Joann took pictures of the surroundings of the church while Linda and I investigated the cemetery. I would like to say that it was an awsome night to investigate. We had a full moon, the bugs were singing from the trees and bats were flying out of the church steeple! I would have to say on a creepy scale of 1 to 10...this was starting out as a 10!!! As we proceeded to the center of the cemetery, I started hearing what sounded like bells. We followed the sound of the bells and came to a gravesite that had a wind chime next to the gravestone. The sound of the bells was creepy, but not paranormal. Finally, we made it to the back of the cemetery were we found the glowing object we saw from the church. It turned out to be a solar powered lighted cross. Linda and I walked all over the cemetery with our EMF detector, but we never found anything. We made our way back to Joann at the church and she told us that while we were gone she had a visitor which turned out to be a possum!! We continued to investigate around the church, but were unable to find anything. But I have to admit, my eyes could have been playing tricks on me and bare in mind that it was a fool moon and fog was starting to creep into the cemetery from the river....but I swear I thought I saw a shadow of a person running thru the graveyard. When I shined my flashlight into that area, there was no one there! The only real scare I got was when a police officer pulled up behind us checking us out. He eventually backed up and drove off, but it did spook us a little! Later when I was analyzing our video recording, I did find something unusual. I heard a sigh on the recording while Linda and I were talking about one the tombstones. We believe Seven Islands church is a great place to visit and a little creepy at night, but would not say that it is haunted. Just remember that you might run into the local wildlife! DOC

Wait for me
Many nurses have told me stories about how our Critical care unit (CCU) was haunted. Televisions turning on by itself, disembodied voices, shadows and cold spots. I however have never experienced this while visiting CCU and decided it was time to do an investigation. The night we were preparing to go up, one our investigators, known as Jo, told us of an employee who had just experienced a paranormal event in CCU. Jo said this individual went to CCU to retrieve some equipment for one of the other units. As he entered the rooom, the door slammed behind him. This startled him, but he went on into CCU to find what he was looking for. After finding the equipment, he noticed that now there was a chair in front of the door with some books on it. As he walked towards the chair to vacate the unit, the books fell off the chair as if pushed. This scared him so bad he said he would never returned to CCU!! After hearing this, Big Al, Jo and myself were ready to go. Upon arriving to CCU, we noticed how extremely hot it was. I took EMF readings and I did have some spikes, but I could always trace it back to a power source. After investigating for a while without any activity, we decided to leave. We were all extremely hot and sweaty. It had to be over 100 degrees and I was glad to get out of there. I was disappointed that I saw and heard nothing and considered this investigation a bust. We got on the elevator and pushed the button to go down. The door closed and then it opened up again on the same floor. I asked AL if he hit the right button and he said yes. So jokingly, I said I believe someone got on with us and strangely enough my EMF detector started to register higher numbers. Big Al noticed this and with a shocked look on his face read the numbers as they rose. I could not wait to see if we actually caught something on the digital recorder in the elevetor. While reviewing the audio on the elevator, I caught a women's voice saying " wait for me". This prompted another investigation on CCU. Jo, Al and I went back to see if we could catch the women's voice again. CCU was still extremely hot and after being there for a few minutes we were all drenched in sweat. I did EMF readings again and just like last time nothing had changed. But while standing outside one of the rooms, we all heard someone humming. It probably only lasted a couple of seconds, but it was clearly a hum! We went into this room to try to communicate with whoever was there. Suddenly I felt something touch the middle of my back and ,amidst the extreme heat, my back felt cold. It felt as if someone was holding an ice pack there. I looked at the other investigator and she also felt the same thing. This lasted for only a minute. We experienced nothing else and we decided to wrap it up. When we reviewed the audio we did catch the hum, but nothing else. We are going to try to investigate one other floor before our facility closes. Supposedly, people have seen shadows and experienced cold spots there. I will let you know what we find! Doc

So very cold
I am sad to announce that Nate has left our facility for other employment close to home. He will no longer be doing paranormal investigations at our facility anymore. He is a valuable member of Spook investigations and will be missed. Luckily, Jennifer M. volunteered to join the team. She wanted to learn about the paranormal and we welcomed her with open arms. Many have asked me what happened with the next investigation involving Jennifer Y. on 4A. Well this is how it went!! This investigation took place in the winter and maintenance decided it was time to cut off the heat to 4A since no one used the floor anymore. I want everyone to know that I never felt cold spots on that floor anymore because the temperature on 4A was quite cool now. Not cold enough to see your breath, but very cool! Jennifer M. attended the next investigation with Bob and I on 4A. While Bob and I were instructing her on how to use the EMF detector, we heard a strange knocking sound coming from one of the rooms down the hall. We did not hang around long because the noise we heard sounded like someone moving stuff around in that room. So we thought the activity might have been human and not paranormal. Later, when we listened to the tape of our brief investigation, we heard a strange laughing noise exactly like what was on the video tape in the spider webs post. The next day I decided it was time to send up Jennifer Y. Big Al was ready to go!! He had now overcome is fear of paranormal trash bags. What I now tell you is what I heard on the digital audio recorder and from what they saw and heard while on the floor. Jennifer Y. and Al were the only ones to make this investigation. I decided that I wanted as few people as possible on this venture. When they arrived on the floor it was very dark and cold. They also heard a knocking sound and it startled them because they had never heard it before! During the investigation they noticed that it was very windy outside and while in one of the rooms a window was rattling due to the wind. So they were able to debunk the knocking sound they heard previously. On the tape, I heard big Al say he was greatly relieved to find out that the noise was not paranormal and Jennifer stated that she believed that the window probably made the knocking sounds I had heard. Then to our surprise on the tape we heard a lady's voice say "I am cold....so very cold". I have to admit that this floor has paranormal activity on it, but I wonder about the other floors that are closed down. I also wonder if the paranormal activity is intelligent or risidual. We have had responses from what sounded like a man and a woman, but the laughter is hard to tell. My team has decided they want to check out the other floors before our facility shuts down permanently. We have always heard CCU was haunted so that is where we will go next!! Doc

Cold water
In the upcoming investigations, I thought I would put my theory to the test that more paranormal activity took place on 4A when a female was present. Bob, Nate, Al and myself ventured to 4A on numerous occasions as the all male investigative crew. We sometimes would get some weird EMF readings and an occasional cold spot, but nothing significant. For those that are new to this, EMF stands for electromagnetic field which is helpful in detecting an unseen presence. I also caught nothing on audio or video which was also disappointing. Well, actually I did catch one thing on video. I caught big Al getting the shock of his life. While investigating the room where we heard the whisper, Al opened the bathroom door only to have a trash bag tied to the door handle float up and hit him in the face. He jumped two feet in the air, passed gas and ran out of the room. I apologized to the ghost for Al's lack of bodily control and carried on with the investigation. I just knew I would have a cursing spirit on the video after all that. But sadly I did not, so I decided it was time to bring back Jennifer Y. to test my theory. When we arrived to the floor, Jennifer did not want to go back in the room where she felt the spider webs previously. She said she just felt uneasy! After we completed our investigation, we stood in the hallway outside the spider web room. Suddenly Jennifer said "did you all hear that? It sounded like water gurgling." None of us heard the noise nor did we find the source. When we replayed the video, to our surprise we caught something right before Jennifer stating "did you all hear that?" It was a man's voice softly saying "the water is cold." The next day if Jennifer was willing, I was going to send her up again. I will tell you about our findings later. Doc

Spider webs
After several uneventful investigations on 4A, I decided it was time to try something new. Two of my co-workers, Jennifer Y. and Kelley D., were wanting to investigate 4A after hearing the voice on the video. Kelley was the first to investigate with our team. While walking thru one of the rooms, Kelley started to complain of nausea and headache. When she left the room, she said she felt better. She experienced no problems throughout the investigation until we returned to that same room. Kelley said that she felt like she was walking thru spider webs even though there were no spider webs present. Later while reviewing the video, I noticed that she was third in line out of five to enter that room. A few minutes later, Kelley left the investigation stating she felt sick and uncomfortable. Wondering why none of the men on the team were experiencing spider webs or sickness, I decided to bring up Jennifer Y. to see if maybe the same thing would happen to her. By the way, I did not tell her what Kelley had experienced. We went straight to that room to see what would happen. After being in the room for only a few minutes, Jennifer said she felt like she was walking thru spider webs and started complaining of a headache. We investigated some of the other rooms, but they seemed rather quiet. However, Jennifer's headache continued on for a couple of hours even after we had left the floor. When we reviewed the video tape of Jennifer's experience in the room, we noticed a mist float by her as well as a strange laughing noise. Neither of which was noticed by the team during the investigation. Oddly enough, the room we first heard the voice in was on the opposite end of the floor were the ladies felt the spider webs. This floor has over 30 rooms on it and I plan to spend time in each. I believe that the room with the paranormal spider webs has a connection to the female investigators. I will test this theory out again with follow up investigations. Doc

The whisper
I have been asked many times how I got into investigating the paranormal. The answer is always the same....by accident. If you had asked me a couple of years ago about paranormal activity, I would have thought you were nuts!! Now, I believe. This is my story for how it all began for Spook investigations. I work night shift at a hospital that had many floors closed down due to water damage. My co-worker would sometimes cut thru those floors to speed up his delivery time. Well one night as he was walking thru floor 4A, he heard a noise behind him and when he turned around he saw a shadowy figure step into one of the old patient rooms. When he returned to the department, he called security and they said it was probably someone just messing around up there. It seems a month earlier security caught a homeless man sleeping on that floor. So, I thought I would play a practical joke on my co-worker Al. I told him we would do a paranormal investigation on that floor and get to the bottom of this shadowy visitor. But what I had really done was call my friend Bob and asked him to hide out on the floor and make noises up there while we investigated. The next day, I added my friend Nate to our investigative team and with a camcorder in hand the three amigos were off to 4A. When we arrived to 4A, Bob started making all the ghostly sounds during our investigation. AL was pretty spooked at first, but was greatly relieved to find out that Bob was behind all noises. After having a good laugh at Al's expense, I continued taping on the other side of 4A. I darted in and out some of the old rooms just to look at the water damage and they were dark, damp and cold. When we returned to the department, we all watched the tape to have another laugh at big Al. At the end of the tape, we were startled by a whisper that appeared on the video as I was walking out of one of the rooms. We accused each other of saying it, but no one took responsibility. The whisper said "God D****t to hell". Not sure of what to believe we decided to do another investigation on 4A. Since then we have made over 60 investigations through out the hospital in which I will be glad to share with you our findings. DOC
